2018 Stolen Barrel

The idea of Stolen Barrel came in 2015 when our winery was burgled. One of the items stolen was a one-use Bordeaux-style barrel. After a stalled police investigation, a craigslist search, and some undercover work, we managed to recover the barrel unscathed!

After barreling down our 2015 Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, we had just enough of each wine to fill completely fill our "Stolen Barrel." Over the next year, it became obvious that there was something very special about this 50/50 blend.

As we tasted through the 2018 wines in barrel, we were continually drawn to two particular barrels: one Merlot and one Cabernet, so we decided to once again make a "Stolen Barrel." Like the 2015, it is a 50/50 blend, but the 2018 spent more time in barrel (22 months) and saw 50% new oak.

The result is a structured wine you could lay down for many years. Though even in its youth it reveals vibrant red and blue fruits, black cherry, plum, and baking spice. If drinking now, we recommend decanting for 2-3 hours beforehand.
